CLINTON, NY - The second seed #11 Union College women's lacrosse team lost by a score of 13-3 to top seed and ranked Hamilton in the Liberty League Championship on Saturday. Both teams experienced two lightning delays in each half. Union is 11-7 on the year.
Kristin Joyce,
Jill LaForest and
Danielle Ayers each scored a goal while
Melissa Hine notched a pair of assists. Netminder
Cat Ruggiero stopped nine shots. Joyce, Hine and
Kat Egizi represented Union on the All-Tournament Team.
Hamilton jumped into a 2-0 lead with 6:50 into the first period. After a 45-minute delay of game due to lightning and rain in the area, Joyce cut Hamilton's lead to within one with 19:17 left in the half.
But Hamilton would go on to add seven goals at the end of the first half. The Continentals out shot the Dutchwomen 17-4 with Ruggiero stopping five of them.
Before the second half was about to begin, the officials called for another lightning delay. LaForest scored the second goal at 21:50 and Ayers scored with 4:10 left in the game.
