SCHENECTADY, NY – Sophomore midfielder Rachel Cohen scored her first career goal late in the first half to lead Union past SUNY New Paltz, 3-1, in the Dutchwomen Classic at College Park.
The Dutchwomen improved to 3-0 on the season, while the Hawks fell to 1-4.
Union got on the scoreboard first when freshman forward #Melissa Mansfield# deflected a cross from junior forward Jessica Strang into the net at 10:28 of the first half.
Later in the half, Cohen corralled a loose ball and scored on a well-placed shot from 30 yards out at 35:39 to give Union a 2-0 lead.
The Dutchwomen would take a 3-0 lead early in the second half when sophomore forward Jennifer Mansfield redirected a cross from her younger sister Melissa at 58:51.
The Hawks cut into Union's lead with a goal from Maggie Vasconi at 61:14, but could not get any closer.
Union outshot SUNY New Paltz 21-11 for the game, including 11 shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Abby Stohler made four saves and improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Dutchwomen will face Westfield State College tomorrow at College Park at 3:00 p.m.
