Jansen and Margulies earn Liberty League weekly honors

SCHENECTADY, NY - - The Liberty League has named two Union men's soccer players to weekly honors for the week ending September 5th. Sebastiaan Jansen was named the Co-Offensive Performer of the Week while Adam Margulies was named Co-Defensive Performer of the Week.

In a 2-0-1 week for the Dutchmen, Jansen scored four goals, tallying eight points for the week. The most impressive part of this feat was that all four goals happened in the same game, the championship game of the MCLA 2010 CIAO Classic. Four goals is a career-high for the sophomore, who led Union in the 7-1 win over St. Joseph's (LI).

For his efforts, Jansen was named the tournament MVP. He scored two goals in each half, starting in the ninth minute on a cross from Chris Santangelo. Jansen scored again in the 30th minute from last week's Co-Rookie Performer of the Week Nick Vozzella. In the second half he notched his third in the 54th minute on a pass from Kevin Giron. His final goal was done in unassisted fashion in the 64th minute.

Margulies earned the honors by stopping eight shots for saves, surrendering just one goal and collecting two shutouts. The junior stopped a week-high four shots against St. Joseph's in the championship game of the MCLA tournament on Sunday. In the first game of the tournament on Saturday, a 1-0 win over host MCLA, Margulies had a save. The other three saves came on Tuesday against Western Connecticut State University at College Park in a 0-0 tie.

The men's soccer team will return to action on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when it travels to SUNY Geneseo.
