SCHENECTADY, NY - - The Union College volleyball team had a 1-3 weekend in Ithaca, NY at the Bomber Invitational. After the weekend the Dutchwomen are now 2-4 on the season.
In the first match-up against Widener, Union fell 25-20, 25-17 and 29-27.
Eve Richards led the team with 12 kills while Erica Van Valkenburg led the team with 21 digs.
The second match pitted the Dutchwomen against St. John Fisher with the Cardinals prevailing 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-16). Richards (11) and
Jordan Remillard (10) both finished with double-digit kills, with Richards leading the team in digs (12).
Union got its lone win of the Invitational against Rutgers-Newark 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-14). Richards led the team in kills again with seven, this time tying with freshman
Casey Tepper. Classmate
Marissa Vollmer led the team with 11 digs.
In the final match Union faced Skidmore, who defeated the Dutchwomen earlier in the season 3-0 at home. Skidmore got the better of Union once again but this time in much closer fashion. Union showed grit by coming back from 2-0 to tie the match at two games apiece. Skidmore, however, took the final game 15-10 to defeat the Dutchwomen (25-15, 25-18, 25-20, 28-26, 15-10). Union had four players finish with double-digit digs: Vollmer (16), Richards (11), Tepper (10), and
Mackenzie Westfall (10). Richards continued her dominance in the kills category, finishing with 18 kills, her largest total of the weekend.
The Dutchwomen will host the Union Invitational this upcoming weekend, playing their first match against Hartwick at 4 p.m. in the Viniar Athletic Center on Friday.
