Dutchwomen's soccer defeats Hamilton to improve to 6-1

Box Score

SCHENECTADY, NY
– Union College freshman forward Melissa Mansfield scored her third goal of the season in the first half and senior midfielder Caitlin O'Donnell scored on a free kick in the second half to help the Dutchwomen defeat Hamilton College, 2-0, at College Park in a Liberty League contest.

With the win, Union improved to 6-1 on the season, while the Continentals fell to 4-1-1 on the year.

The Dutchwomen took a 1-0 lead early on in the contest, capitalizing on their first scoring chance of the afternoon.

Just under five minutes into the contest, sophomore forward Jennifer Mansfield corralled a cross from freshman midfielder Laura Snowden and fired a shot that deflected off of Hamilton goalkeeper Hailey Bobbin. Melissa Mansfield followed with a rebound into an open net for a 1-0 Union lead at 4:57.

In the second half, O'Donnell took a straightaway free kick from 30 yards out and chipped it off the top of the crossbar and into the net at 63:57 for a 2-0 advantage for the Dutchwomen.

The Continentals applied late pressure, but senior goalkeeper Abby Stohler made two saves in the second half to help Union preserve the victory.

The Dutchwomen will host No. 6 William Smith at College Park tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
