Women's soccer falls in final minutes to No. 6 William Smith

Box Score

SCHENECTADY, N.Y
– William Smith forward Emily Harris scored on a header in the final two minutes to help the No. 6 Herons defeat the Dutchwomen's soccer team, 2-1, at College Park.

The Dutchwomen fell to 6-2 (1-1 Liberty League), while William Smith improved to 7-1-1 (1-0-1 Liberty League).

With the game tied at 1-1 late in the second half, Harris leaped over the Union defense on a high ball in the box and scored her first goal of the season at 88:31.

The Dutchwomen had tied the game earlier in the half on freshman forward Kelly McDonough's first career goal at 73:13. McDonough finished off a cross from freshman forward Melissa Mansfield with a low shot into the net.

William Smith scored the game's first goal at 63:09, when Whitney Frary scored from in close on a loose ball in the six-yard box to give the Herons a 1-0 lead.

Both teams had quality scoring chances in the first half, starting with William Smith.

At 26:26, Frary fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box, forcing senior goalkeeper Abby Stohler off her line and into the air to make the save. Stohler tipped the ball off the crossbar and over the net to keep the game scoreless.

Union followed with its best chance of the half at 27:43, when junior forward Jessica Strang took a pass on the right side, and fired a shot that sailed just wide of the top left corner.

The Dutchwomen will host Mount Holyoke College at College Park in their next contest on Sept. 29 at 7:00 pm.
