SCHENECTADY, NY -- Rachel Preusser scored two goals to lead Castleton State to a 4-2 field hockey victory over Union College in a non-league game at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday night. The Spartans improved to 7-2 overall while the Dutchwomen fell to 3-4.
The Spartans scored just 3:03 into the contest, as Rachel Preusser scored her fifth of the year. She broke in alone to the right of the Union goal and scored from just over 10 yards out. Castleton made it 2-0 with 26:17 left when Courtney Nolan shot to the left corner from five out. It was Nolan's sixth of the season.
Just under three minutes later, Kealy Chipman picked up her own rebound from close in front and notched her sixth score of the year.
The Dutchwomen got on the board when
isabel Zellweger scored her fourth of the year on a backhand out front with 29:05 left in the second half. But the Spartans got that back with 23:46 left to play in the second half. Pruesser took a pass from Stephanie Paproski from the left side, and scored her second of the yda and #7 of the year for a 4-1 Spartan lead.
Kelsey Powers took a corner pass from
Lauren Winchell and scored #6 of her season with 7:11 remaining in regulation to pull the Dutchwomen closer.
Siobhan Whittemore made 13 saves for the Spartans, while
Sarah Rios stopped 11 in the Dutchwomen nets.
The Dutchwomen continue a four game homestand with a 2 p.m. game against Montclair State Saturday at Frank Bailey Field. Castleton is at Husson on Saturday.
