Union splits first two matches of the season

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's volleyball team split its first two contests of the season, defeating The Sage Colleges, 3-0, after falling to Skidmore College in its season opener by the same score at Viniar Athletic Center.

 

The Dutchwomen won by scores of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-18 against the Gators. With the final set in the balance, Union won six consecutive points on Eve Richards' serve to take a 13-6 lead.

 

The Gators closed within four points at 17-13, but the Dutchwomen ran off five consecutive points for a 22-13 lead. Union closed out the match with kills from Rebecca Knepple and Richards on two out of the last three points.

 

In the first contest of the afternoon, the Thoroughbreds won by scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-21, and improved to 1-0 on the season. The Dutchwomen are now 1-1 on the year.

                                                              

Union faces Widener University in the Bomber Invitational next Friday at 5:00 p.m. in Ithaca, NY.
