Box Score

ITHACA, NY –
Freshman forward Daniel Carr scored two power play goals and senior defenseman Brock Matheson had a goal and an assist to help Union earn a 5-1 win in front of 4,267 fans at Lynah Rink.

Freshman forward Kevin Sullivan and sophomore forward Wayne Simpson added third period goals to help Union seal the victory.

Trailing 1-0 after one period of play, the Dutchmen took control in the second period, outshooting the Big Red 17-5. Carr scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season on the power play at 6:20. Sophomore forward Jeremy Welsh fired a shot form the point wide, but freshman forward Kevin Sullivan controlled the puck behind the net. Sullivan fed Carr, who redirected the puck past Iles to tie the game.

After a period of sustained pressure, Brock Matheson gave the Dutchmen the lead at 17:20. Freshman forward Matt Hatch drove the net, firing a low shot that Iles stopped. But Matheson corralled an errant clear attempt by Cornell, and beat Iles with a wrist shot into the top left corner.

Carr gave Union a 3-1 lead at 6:24 of the third period, finding a loose puck at the goal mouth and firing it past Iles for his team leading 14th goal of the season.

Sullivan scored on a wrap-around at 10:49, chasing Iles from the net, and Simpson scored an empty net goal at 16:10 to seal the win for the Dutchmen.

Cornell forward Joe Devin gave the Big Red an early lead, scoring in the first minute of the contest. Linemate Tyler Roeszler started the play by skating out from behind Union's net and firing a point-blank shot that sophomore goaltender Keith Kinkaid stopped with a pad. Devin was there to put the rebound into an open net at 1:16 to give Cornell a 1-0 lead.

Union settled down after the score and went on to control play for the rest of the game. Freshman forward Daniel Carr nearly tied the game with a wrist shot from just inside the right faceoff circle at about the 13:00 mark, but Cornell goaltender Andy Iles was there to make a blocker save.

Union outshot Cornell 42-17 for the game.
