SCHENECTADY, NY -- Andrea Day scored 4:45 into overtime to lift SUNY Oneonta to a 4-3 non-league field hockey victory at Union College Friday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 13-6 overall while the Dutchwomen fell to 2-14.
After a save and rebound, Day blasted home her eighth of the season from 10 yards out to lift the Red Dragons to the triumph at 74:45. Oneonta had a 21-18 shot advantage and Union had a 13-11 advantage in corners.
Oneonta opened the scoring with 21:32 remaining in the first half. Suzanne Wright took a loose ball in front on the right side of the net, and through a crowd fired in her third of the season.
Isabel Zellweger tied it for Union with 13:09 left in the first half. She scored her seventh of the year with a drive from 10 yards out to the right of the Oneonta net.
Zellweger gave the Dutchwomen a 2-1 lead with 9:50 remaining in the half. She took a nice feed from
Darcy Berger and drove it in from the left side of the net, 10 yards out.
Stephanie Fiske tied it for the Red Dragons with her second of the season at 41:48 of the contest, deep inside the left post. Megan Warning set up the play for the 2-2 tie. But Warning then notched her team leading 18
th of the year with a scramble behind the goalie after a pass from Ashley Morgan at 46:58, and it was 3-2 Oneonta.
At 53:07, Berger tied it up at 3-3 for Union. She took a pass across the net from
Kelsey MacElroy and shot inside the right side of the net from seven yards out. The 3-3 score held up at the end of regulation.
Caroline Moran had an open shot just minutes into the overtime but Tess Tracy made the save. On the other side, three minutes in, Chelsea Remling had a drive in close from the left side that dribbled wide.
Tracy made 13 saves for Oneonta while
Molly McCune made 10 stops in the Union net.
Union closes out the season Saturday at 12 p.m. when the Dutchwomen host Wheaton at Frank Bailey Field. Oneonta is idle until November 4, when the Red Dragons face New Paltz in the SUNYAC Tournament at Cortland at 1:30 p.m.
