Union Volleyball falls to New Paltz 3-1 after shutting out Plattsburgh 3-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College volleyball team defeated Plattsburgh 3-0 Saturday, before falling to New Paltz 3-1.  The Dutchwomen shut out the Cardinals with scores of 25-21, 25-10 and 25-8.  Despite winning the second set, the squad succumbed to the Hawks with scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-20.

Against the Cardinals, senior Mary Foley produced a .429 hitting percentage with six kills. Sophomore setter Mackenzie Westfall led Union with 37 assists while freshman Claire Kokoska tallied seven kills. 

Leading the Dutchwomen with a day total of 35 kills, 31 digs and two block solos, Eve Richards reached another milestone in her career.  Now at a season total of 502 kills, Richards tallied her highest amount of kills in any of her four seasons at Union.  The senior recorded 341 in 2008, 332 in 2009 and 440 in 2010. 

Sophomore Casey Tepper registered 19 kills and 16 digs in the loss to New Paltz.  Bringing her day total to 84, Westfall tallied 47 assists against the Hawks while sophomore Marissa Vollmer led the Dutchwomen in digs with 31.

Union ends their 2011 season at 20-15.
