Dutchwomen dominate Skidmore 3-1 in Liberty League match

SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College Volleyball Team defeated Skidmore College 3-1 Tuesday night at the Viniar Athletic Center.  This marks the second time the Dutchwomen have met the Thoroughbreds in two weeks, evening their series at 1-1.  The squad came out on top with scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-22. 

The two teams were evenly paced throughout the evening, going point for point for the majority of the match.  The Dutchwomen were able to pull away with help from freshman Claire Kokoska, who recorded four service aces and four block assists.  Senior Mary Foley tallied six block assists, as well as one solo block.

Senior Eve Richards played a major part in Union's come-from-behind victories in sets three and four.  The outside hitter had 21 kills with a .322 hitting percentage and notched four block assists.  Sophomores Marissa Vollmer and Casey Tepper also had tremendous games, tallying 13 and 21 digs, respectively.  Tepper was also solid serving, as the outside hitter closed out multiple sets.

Sophomore setter Mackenzie Westfall registered 35 assists during the match, contributing to Union's third conference win.  The squad is now 3-3 in Liberty League play and 11-9 overall.

The Dutchwomen are now set to host the Interleague Challenge on October 7th and 8th.  The tournament officially opens with Union taking on SUNY Oneonta at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.  The squad also will match up against Kean University, Hartwick College and Lasell.
