SCHENECTADY, NY – No. 9/9 men's ice hockey fell 4-0 to No. 10/13 Yale in front of 1,901 fans at Messa Rink. The Dutchmen were shutout at home for the first time since Feb. 27, 2009, when they fell 2-0 to St. Lawrence.
Union (5-3-3, 2-2-0 ECAC Hockey) outshot Yale (4-1-1, 3-1-1 ECAC Hockey), 45-26, but was unable to solve Jeff Malcolm, who recorded his third consecutive shutout. Yale's Dan Otto scored twice at even strength to lead the scoring attack for the visiting Bulldogs.

Troy Grosenick made 14 saves on 18 shots and was relieved in the second period by freshman
Colin Stevens, who stopped all eight shots. Junior goaltender Jeff Malcolm made 45 saves.
Yale took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission after controlling play for much of the opening period. Brian O'Neill gave the Bulldogs a lead on their first power play opportunity of the game, with Union's
Mat Bodie in the penalty box for tripping. O'Neill fired a one-timer from the side boards past Grosenick at 4:36 to put Yale up 1-0.
Later in the first period, the Bulldogs scored two goals in 16 seconds to extend their lead. Otto scored his first goal of the night on a rebound at 16:24. Charles Brockett scored on a backhand shot at 16:40 to give Yale a 3-0 lead.
Otto scored his second goal of the night on a long wrist shot over the shoulder of Grosenick at 2:43 of the second period before Stevens entered the game in net for the Dutchmen.
Union outshot Yale 35-8 the rest of the way, but the Dutchmen were unable to overcome the early deficit. Union had five power play chances in the third period, and nine shots on goal with the man advantage, but were unable to solve Malcolm.
The Dutchmen will take on Rensselaer on Tuesday night at Houston Field House in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
