CLINTON, N.Y.-- Brittney Kenney scored a game-high 20 points to lead Union College to a 49-39 win over Hamilton College in a non-conference game at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Nov. 30.
Kenney added two steals and three assists.
Shayla Madden chipped in eight points and six rebounds, while
Amy Loya led the Dutchwomen with seven rebounds.
Mary Donohue dished out a team-high four assists, and
Rachel Beaulac posted three steals. Union has won six of the last seven meetings.
Madie Harlem led the Continentals with 11 points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds and three steals. Dani Feigin dished out a career-high six assists and scored eight points.
Union (2-2 overall) scored the first seven points and led 14-2 with 16:19 left in the first half. The Dutchwomen still led by as many as nine points midway through the half. Feigin scored the final four points of the half, and the Dutchwomen held a 27-22 advantage at the break.
Union scored the first five points of the second half to make it 32-22 with 19:14 left. But Hamilton went on a 12-4 run, capped by Harlem's layup, to pull the Continentals within 36-34 with 11:16 remaining. Hamilton then went nearly 11 minutes before they made their next basket.
After the Dutchwomen took a 40-34 lead with 9:27 left, the Continentals held Union without a point for the next six minutes, 18 seconds. With the Dutchwomen clinging to a 40-37 lead, Kenney made a layup with 3:09 left, and
Carolyn Niedzwiecki converted another layup 30 seconds later. Loya clinched the victory on a layup with 1:02 remaining.
Hamilton outrebounded Union 41-34, thanks to 17 offensive boards. The Continentals shot just 20 percent in the second half and missed all 11 of their 3-point attempts.
Union travels to SUNY Cobleskill for a non-conference game on Dec. 3, at 3 p.m.
