COBLESKILL, NY --A cold shooting first half by a strong Union defense proved to be too much to overcome on Saturday afternoon for the SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team as the Fighting Tigers fell to the visiting Dutchmen of Union College in non-league play by a 72-49 margin. The loss drops Cobleskill to 0-7 on the season while Union improves to 3-1 overall on the campaign.
The Dutchman's first half defense wrecked havoc on the Fighting Tiger offense holding the home team to 6-28, 41.4%, from the field during the stanza. Cobleskill trailed by 18 points at the break, 35-17, a lead they could never cut into during the second half.
The Fighting Tigers were led in scoring by senior swingman Clint Foster with 11 points to go with three rebounds while sophomore guard Dustin Van Lieu chipped in 10 points on the afternoon.
Union received strong efforts from sophomore guard
Keith Callies, who scored a career high 21 points and took down six rebounds and from junior center/forward
Keven Donohue, who had 10 poins, eight rebounds and three assists in the win. Freshman guard Terell Winney was also a factor in the game with 11 points, three rebounds and a pair of steals in a reserve role for the Dutchmen.
