SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior guard
Drew Goldstein scored a game high 20 points in the final game of his career to lead the Union College men's basketball team to a 70-55 Liberty League victory over St. Lawrence University at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen close out the season with an 11-14 overall record and a 3-11 mark in the league while the Saints also wrap up their winter with a record of 11-13 overall and 7-7 in the league.
Goldstein was honored prior to the game along with senior teammates and tri-captains
Matt Covucci and
Matt Rogers. Covucci's last game featured a game best 11 rebounds and eight assists, matching that season high. Goldstein had his fourth 20 point game of the season and Covucci had his ninth double figure rebound game of the season.
Keith Callies eclipsed his season high in his freshman season with 14 points off the bench. Union shot 45% and equaled the Saints with 34 rebounds while turning the ball over only nine turnovers.
Ralph Temgoua led St. Lawrence with 14 points and Ben Araya had seven rebounds. Four players had five rebounds each, Araya, Temgoua, Payton Stahler and Jon Goldberg. The Saints shot 38%.
Union had a 36-31 lead at halftime and had a 10 points lead at 47-37 with 15:07 left in the second half. The Saints got to within four at 55-51 with 7:53 remaining, but the Dutchmen pulled away and the 15 point final was the largest lead of the night.
