Dutchwomen defeat Bears on Pink at the Rink Day

SCHENECTADY, NY --
 Union scored three goals and held off a late Brown rally as they defeated the Bears 3-2 on Saturday afternoon on Pink at the Rink Day.
 
The game was scoreless after the first period. Brown got on the board first when Victoria Smith scored from the left side of the faceoff circle. Union would answer when Elsa Perushek slapped a hard shot on the top left side of the faceoff circle that Lauren Hoffman tipped in to even the game at one all.
 
The Dutchwomen took the lead on the power play at 18:46 of the third period on a goal by Jeannie Sabourin. Later at 9:50, Ashley Johnston flipped in a shot by Dania Simmonds to give Union a 3-1 lead. With just over three minutes to play, Brown goaltender Katie Jamieson was pulled for the extra attacker. The Bears would take advantage at 19:33 to make it a 3-2 game but it was not enough as Union would hold onto the lead.
 
Alana Marcinko got the start in goal and made 16 saves in goal. Jamieson had 22 saves for Brown.
 
Union led in shots in the game 25-18. They were 2-for-4 on the power play while Brown was 1-for-5.
 
The Dutchwomen head on the road to face Princeton next Friday at 7 pm.
 
NOTES: The Union goal in the second period broke a four game scoreless streak….The last time the Dutchwomen scored three goals in a game the was 12/4 against RPI…..
