SCHENECTADY, NY – No. 4/4 Union (26-8-4, 17-3-2 ECAC Hockey) surrendered four goals in the third period as Colgate (10-26-3, 4-15-3 ECAC Hockey) earned a 4-2 win in Game 2 of the ECAC Quarterfinals in front of 2,218 fans at Messa Rink.
For the Dutchmen, the loss snapped a 12-game unbeaten streak (11-0-1), and was their first defeat since a 4-1 setback on Jan. 21 against Dartmouth.

The Raiders got their offense going in the early part of the closing frame. Colgate forward Austin Mayer cut Union's lead in half at 5:48, chipping a rebound over the arm of sophomore goaltender
Keith Kinkaid.
Colgate tied the game on their fourth power play opportunity of the evening when sophomore forward
Kyle Bodie was whistled for a neutral zone tripping penalty at 9:57. Just over a minute into the man advantage, Colgate's Brian Day fired a wide angle shot that Chris Wagner deflected past Kinkaid at 11:06 to tie the game.
With the momentum in their favor, the Raiders took the lead at 14:48, when Robbie Bourdon scored on another deflection from the slot to give Colgate a 3-2 advantage.
Day sealed the game with an empty net goal at 19:22, sending the series to a deciding third game tomorrow night at Messa Rink.
The Dutchmen opened the game with a goal in the first ten minutes for the second straight night, as sophomore forward
Wayne Simpson scored at 5:21 to give Union an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore defenseman
Shawn Stuart chipped the puck up to Simpson, who skated into open ice for a one-on-one with a Colgate defenseman.
Simpson chipped a backhander over the outstretched arm of Colgate goaltender Eric Mihalik at 5:21 for his 16th goal of the year to give Union a 1-0 lead.
Union would take a two goal advantage at 8:01 of the second period, as Bodie corralled a failed clear attempt by Colgate and fired a low wrist shot past Mihalik. The goal was Bodie's 30
th point of the season (six goals, 24 assists), giving the freshman the school single-season scoring record by a defenseman, previously set by
Mike Schreiber (29 points in 2009-10).
But Colgate rallied to hand the Dutchmen just their second loss of the season when leading after two periods (19-2-2).
For the game, Union outshot Colgate 29-22, as Kinkaid made 18 saves, while Mihalik stopped 27 shots. The Dutchmen were held scoreless on the power play on two chances, while Colgate went 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
The Dutchmen will take on the Raiders tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at Messa Rink, with tickets to go on sale at the Messa Rink box office, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
