SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union men's lacrosse team earned 16-6 victory over SUNY Oneonta in its home opener at Frank Bailey Field on Wednesday. The Dutchmen (1-1) were led by three goals from sophomore
Robert Young, his first three tallies of the season.
Union jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 4:44 of the first quarter on Young's first goal of the game with two Oneonta players serving holding penalties. The Red Dragons knotted the score at 1 on Brian Koller's unassisted score just 20 seconds later.
Oneonta would take the lead at 14:09 of the second quarter on Mike Salerno's goal, but Union scored eight unanswered goals, seven in the second period to take a commanding 9-2 lead on Young's second goal of the night at 11:02 of the third quarter.
Onoenta scored three of the next four goals in the quarter, as Scott Kellman, Tom Kelly and Joe Stroessenreuther each found the net to cut Union's lead to 10-5 heading into the final quarter of play. Sophomore
Alex Stone had Union's lone tally of the quarter at 7:18.
The Dutchmen would run off six straight goals in the fourth quarter as Meyer, Young, Nick Alonzetti, Griesinger, Mahony and
Greg Mooney scored in order to give Union a 16-5 lead with 5:01 to play. Oneonta's Kris Wodiska scored the final goal of the contest at 1:45.

Sean Aaron turned away eight shots in just over 50 minutes, and was subbed by Devyn Jeffries, who made one save in 6:31.
Stephen Melia finished the game for the Dutchmen. Oneonta's Sean Reynolds made 15 saves for the Red Dragons.
Union will return to Frank Bailey Field to take on Manhattanville on Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 pm.
