Casey Dianni scored the game winner with 43 seconds left in regulation as Union College defeated William Smith, 11-10, in a Liberty League women's lacrosse game Friday at Frank Bailey Field.
The Dutchwomen, winners of five of six, won their seventh straight over the Herons and improved to 7-4 overall and 5-1 in the league. William Smith now stands 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the league.
Union goaltender
Alexis Deeb made a huge high save of a shot from Rosie Scheibel with just 20 seconds left to preserve the victory. Deeb stopped 10 for the game and William Smith had a 26-24 shot advantage. The Herons had 37 ground balls to Union's 27 and won 13 draw controls.
Kathleen Ragan had three goals and an assist for the visitors while Lucy Johnson had two goals and a pair of assists and Katherine Vesce scored twice. Jesse Wilson made five saves for the Herons.

Casey Dianni scored twice with an assist for Union.
Union led 4-0 with 17:49 left to play in the first half, but the Herons scored three times in the final 13:14 to make it 4-3 at halftime. After
Kristin Joyce scored her 32nd of the year with 26:44 left, William Smith came back with goals by Vesce and Johnson, with Johnson's free position tally with 25:05 left tying the game at 5-5. Charette scored #24 and #25 for a 7-5 lead with 20:33 left, both assisted by Hine. Johnson made it 7-6 with 20:05 on the board, but Hine and
Heather Fraser got Union up 9-6 as 13:27 remained. Johnson fed Ragan at both 12:41 and 11:22 and when Gillan broke in alone and scored from eight yards out with 11:22 left, it was tied at 9-9.
The Herons took their first lead of the day with 9:26 left as Cassie Findlay fed Vesce from behind the net and Vesce scored her 20th of the year on a quick catch and shot. But Joyce tied the contest up with just 6:35 remaining on her 33rd of the year, a free position score. Union later called timeout with 1:10 left and Dianni snuck around the goalie's right post and got a shot off while covered that produced the eventual winner.
Union hosts league opponent Rochester Saturday at 2 p.m. while Wiliam Smith is at Skidmore for a 2 p.m. league game Saturday.
