Dutchwomen Fall at #4 Cortland, 14-6

. – Junior Lindsay Abbott  scored a career-high 10 points on five goals and five assists, setting a single-season assist record at Cortland, to help lead the nationally fourth-ranked Red Dragons to a 14-8 win versus Union Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.

Senior Kristin Joyce led Union with a game-high six goals and added an assist. Senior Abby Stohler recorded a goal and an assist, sophomore Brittany Fraser scored once and senior Chelsea Charette chipped in with two assists. Junior goalie Alexis Deeb stopped four shots.
 
Freshman Ashley Cook also established career highs with five goals and six points for the Red Dragons (13-1 overall). Juniors Erin Kollar and Jordan Miller , sophomore Maria Di Fato  and freshman Alexis Egeberg each scored one goal. Sophomore goalie Ally Levy made eight saves.
 
Abbott and Di Fato opened the scoring in the game with unassisted goals at 24 minutes, 12 seconds and 22:57, respectively. The Dutchwomen answered with scores from Fraser and Joyce to tie the game at 2-2 with 20:46 left in the first half. Cook and Miller then made it a 4-2 game in favor of Cortland before Stohler pulled Union to within 4-3 at the 11:46 mark. Neither team could score in the closing minutes and Cortland held the 4-3 edge at the break.

The Red Dragons quickly grabbed the momentum to start the second half as Cook scored 28 seconds in and Kollar netted her goal 17 seconds later to give the Red Dragons a 6-3 lead. Abbott followed with back-to-back scores and set up Cook's goal at 22:52 to make it a 9-3 game. Joyce, who scored all five of Union's second-half goals, scored two in a row less than three minutes apart to bring the Dutchwomen to within 9-5 at the 19:27 mark.

After Abbott and Joyce traded goals, Egeberg tallied a goal at 16:19 and Cook scored at 6:08 and Cortland led 12-6. Union made one last run at the Red Dragons as Joyce scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 12-8 with 2:38 remaining, but Abbott tallied her fifth of the game at 2:03 and recorded her record-breaking assist at 49 seconds on Cook's fifth goal of the game.  
 
Union (8-5 overall) will host SUNY Brockport this Saturday at 2 pm.
