SCHENECTADY, NY -- Union scored nine of the game's 10 goals in the second half to open up a close contest and defeat SUNY Brockport, 13-4 Saturday in a non-league women's lacrosse game at Frank Bailey Field. The Dutchwomen improved to 9-5 overall while the Golden Eagles had a five game winning streak snapped and fell to 8-4.
Kristin Joyce scored four goals and assisted on two others, while Melissa Hine had three goals and three assists and Chesea Charette tallied three with a pair of assists for the Dutchwomen. Heather Fraser, Abby Stohler and Hilary Salander each had a goal in the victory while Alexis Deeb made eight saves. Union outshot Brockport, 29-18 and had a 38-21 ground ball advantage.
Brockport had goals by Alyssa Scordo, Stephanie Toomey, Karen Bianchi and Sarah Brown, and goaltender Jamie Kaminsky made 12 stops.
The Dutchwomen led 2-0 with 13:14 left in the first on goals by Hine and Joyce, but after Toomey (her 19th) tallied at 11:16, Bianchi tied it for the Golden Eagles with 8:15 left. HIne regained the home lead with 3:55 remaining in the first half but Scordo's 18th with 2:35 left knotted it up at 3-3. With just 18 seconds left, Charette gave Union the lead for good.
Union scored the next seven goals, and led 11-3 with 9:26 left on Salander's score. Charette notched her 30th and 31st of her senior season during that run, while Hine's third of the day was her 24th of the season. Brown scored Brockport's final goal with 7:02 left to play before Joyce scored the next two. Her final goal with 2:31 left closed out the scoring and gave her 46 on the season.
The Dutchwomen play a non-league game at Drew on Tuesday night before hosting Hamilton for Senior Day and the Liberty League and regular season finale next Saturday at 2 p.m.
