Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY
  – Junior attack Ted McKenna scored three goals and freshman attack Rob Santangelo added two goals and an assist to lead Union (10-3, 4-1 Liberty League) to a 15-4 win at Vassar (5-8, 1-5 Liberty League) on Wednesday evening at Weinberg Field. With the win, the Dutchmen moved into a tie atop the Liberty League standings with Skidmore.

Union reached double-digit wins for the third time in five seasons under head coach Paul Wehrum.

The Brewers had few answers for a powerful and deep Dutchman attack that jumped out to a commanding 7-1 lead, led in shots 43-22 and had 10 different players figure into the scoring column. In a deficit the entire contest, Vassar was able to draw within 10-4 with 6:20 to play in the third period but the Dutchmen scored the game's next five goals for a convincing victory.

Union which led 8-2 at halftime, broke open a contest that was tied 1-1 just a minute into the contest. The stalemate was short-lived, as Union went on a six goal run, getting three goals from McKenna, for a 7-1 lead.

After intermission, Vassar's Christopher Toffoli tallied his second goal with 13:27 to play, bringing Vassar within 9-3, but six of the game's next seven goals came off Union sticks, each goal from a different Dutchman player. The deep and versatile Dutchmen held a 12-4 lead entering the fourth period and simply wore down the Brewers in the final stanza. Vassar was held to only two shots on goal as the game played out in Union's favor.

Santangelo scored his team leading 19th and 20th goals of the season and fellow attack classmate Nate Greenberg added two goals.

Union junior goalie Sean Aaron made seven saves in earning his 10th win of the year. Senior defender Derek Witheford led the Dutchmen with four groundballs.

Union will host Rensselaer this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. on Senior Night at Frank Bailey Field.

Vassar's Alex Tice made six saves in a losing effort for the Brewers. Freshman Andrew Nicol faced 21 second half shots in a backup role. Senior defender Zach Beauchamp had 10 ground balls for the Brewers.
