Men's lacrosse falls to RPI, 9-7, on Senior Night

SCHENECTADY, NY
– Senior attack Brendan Kinnane had a goal and three assists, but the men's lacrosse team fell, 9-7, to Rensselaer (10-5, 4-2 Liberty League) on Senior Night at Frank Bailey Field.
 
RPI's Devin Arnold led all scorers with three goals, and goaltender James Manchester made 17 stops to help the Engineers earn the victory. Union's Sean Aaron made nine stops in net for the Dutchmen.
 
For the game, the Engineers held a 31-22 advantage on ground balls, while the Dutchmen held a 38-23 advantage in shots
 
Union (10-4, 4-2 Liberty League) fell behind early against RPI and spent the majority of the game playing catch up with the Engineers. RPI had five different goal scorers in the first half and built a 4-0 lead before Union's Ted McKenna stopped the run with a man-up goal at 8:56 of the second quarter.
 
RPI's Scott O'Leary scored with 1:16 remaining in the second quarter to give the Engineers a 5-1 lead heading into the half.
 
Union scored four the next five goals to pull within one goal of RPI early in the fourth quarter after freshman attack Nate Greenberg scored with 14:06 remaining in the game.
 
But the Engineers answered with three of the next four goals, two coming from Arnold, to take a 9-6 lead with 7:26 remaining in the contest. Greenberg added his second of the game with 2:52 to play, but the Dutchmen were unable to get any closer.
 
Union earned the No. 2 seed in the Liberty League Semifinals and will host No. 3 seed Clarkson at Frank Bailey Field next Friday at 4:00 p.m.
