SCHENECTADY, NY – The Dutchwomen tallied their seventh win of the season, shutting out Rochester Institute of Technology 2-0 on Saturday at College Park. The go ahead goal came from freshman Stacey Sylvetsky with seconds left to play in the first half.
The game winning goal marks Sylvetsky's first career goal with the Dutchwomen. The midfielder took a long pass in front of the goal from sophomore Meghan Cole, and buried the ball from 30 feet back. Freshman Emma Eddy also assisted.
Union gained security in the match with the second goal coming from freshman Mollie Gilchrist, her fifth of the season. Gilchrist leads in most goals scored. The second half goal was set up off of a free kick from sophomore Caroline Gorka.
The Dutchwomen outshot RIT 15-6 and had a total of four corner kicks. Senior Mia Simone earned the shut out, making four saves during the match.
Senior goalkeeper Ashley Valenti played 90 minutes for RIT and made three saves. Freshman Ashley Carrington had two shots on goal, the most for Rochester on Saturday.
Union is now 7-1 on the year and 1-1 in conference play. The Dutchwomen return to action at Mount Holyoke on Wednesday, September 28, at 7:00 p.m.
