SOUTH HADLEY, MA – The Union College women's soccer team earned a 3-0 win over Mount Holyoke at the Mount Holyoke Soccer Field. With the win, the Dutchwomen improved to 8-1 on the year. They entered the contest ranked 23rd in the latest NSCAA Division III National Poll. The Lyons have suffered three straight setbacks after a 2-1 start.
Union grabbed a 1-0 edge at the 28:37 mark, when first year midfielder
Whitney Bickford bent in a shot from just outside the box on the right side.
The Dutchwomen took advantage of a corner kick opportunity to extend their cushion to 2-0 in the 35th minute. After scooping up a loose ball in the box, first year forward Molly Gilchrist snapped a shot past junior goalkeeper Emily Shank.
Senior forward
Jessica Strang closed out the scoring in the 77th minute, when she collected a pass from the midfield, dribbled into the box and beat first year Taylor Bradley.
Union outshot the Lyons 15-8 and finished with a 7-3 edge in corners. Senior goalkeeper
Mia Simone made four saves in 75 minutes played. Meanwhile, Shank and Bradley turned away one shot apiece for Mount Holyoke.
Junior forward Kiana Lussier led the Lyons with four shots.
Both squads will return to action on Saturday. Mount Holyoke (2-4-0, 1-1-0) will host NEWMAC foe Wheaton College at 1:00 p.m., while Union (8-1-0, 1-1-0 LL) will entertain St. John Fisher College at 2:00 p.m.
