DANBURY, CT - In a heavy, steady rain, the Union College men's soccer team defeated Western Connecticut State University, 2-0 at The WAC on Tuesday night.
Sophomore
Nick Vozzella put the Dutchmen on the scoreboard at the end of the sixth minute when he collected a long pass up the right side from junior
Alex Pack. After getting the ball on his right foot, Vozzella deposited the ball into the back of the net.
In the 22nd minute, seniors
Marc Zeyak and
Tom Albano produced a near carbon copy of Union's first tally. Albano led Zeyak up the right side before the senior forward scored his team-leading second marker of the season.
Senior
Adam Margulies earned the victory in net after making one save before yielding to fellow senior
Mike Szczesniak for the final 28 minutes. Szczesniak also made one stop for the winners.
Junior Angelo Tsingerliotis turned away five shots for the Colonials.
Although both sides were stifled by standing water and had trouble finishing off lengthy passes, the Dutchmen, now 3-0, had a 16-4 shot advantage.
Union takes on the MCLA Tournament this weekend, facing Husson College Friday, September 9, at 12:00 p.m. and Medgar Evers College Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
