NEW HAVEN, CT –
Junior forward Wayne Simpson scored twice and sophomore goaltender Troy Grosenick stopped 29 of 30 shots to help No. 12 men's ice hockey earn a 3-1 win over Yale in front of 3,500 fans at Ingalls Rink. Union has won four straight games for the first time this season and is unbeaten (4-0-1) in its last five contests.

The Dutchmen took the lead for good late in the first period on sophomore forward Daniel Carr's shorthanded goal at 14:37 of the first period, which put the Dutchmen up 2-1. The goal was Carr's 12th of the season and first career shorthanded tally.

Union took an early 1-0 lead in the first period on Simpson's wide angle goal at 7:03. Senior defenseman Nolan Julseth-White helped the Dutchmen gain the zone with a feed to sophomore forward Matt Hatch. Hatch fed to Simpson, who beat Maricic over the glove to give the Dutchmen the lead.

Union killed Yale's first power play opportunity of the game, the Bulldogs caught Union out of position just as Julseth-White returned to the ice from a tripping penalty. Yale's Kenny Agostino fired a shot on net from the circle that Grosenick stopped, but Kevin Peel skated in from the point to put the rebound into an open net at 13:49.

Just two seconds after the goal on the ensuing faceoff, freshman forward Max Novak in the penalty box for tripping, junior forward Jeremy Welsh corralled the puck in the neutral zone and skated up ice with Carr. Welsh fed cross-ice to Carr, who fired a one-timer past Maricic at 14:37 to give the Dutchmen the lead for good.

Grosenick came up with perhaps his biggest save of the game early in the second period, when Yale's Kenny Agostino was tripped up on a breakaway by junior defenseman Greg Coburn awarded a penalty shot at 5:01. Agostino cut to his backhand, but Grosenick stuffed the shot attempt with his left pad to help Union maintain the lead.

The Dutchmen would take a two-goal lead on their only power play opportunity of the second period on Simpson's second goal of the night. Senior forward Kelly Zajac fed junior forward Kyle Bodie down low, who fired a shot on net. Maricic made the initial save, but Simpson scored his 12th goal of the year on the rebound at 15:45 to put Union up 3-1.

The Dutchmen held Yale's power play - ranked fifth in the nation before tonight's game - scoreless in four opportunities on the night.  Union finished the game 1-for-5 on the man advantage.

Dating back to 2010-2011, Union is now 10-0-2 in its last 12 ECAC Hockey road games.

Union will take on Brown tomorrow night at Meehan Auditorium in a game that begins at 7:00 p.m.
