POTSDAM, NY -- Shayla Madden scored 13 points and Kate Thompson had a game high nine rebounds to lead the Union women's basketball team to a 59-46 Liberty League win at Clarkson's Alumni Gymnasium Friday night. The Dutchwomen are now even at 3-3 in the league and also overall at 7-7, while the Golden Knights fell to 0-5 in the league and 5-8 overall.

Madden made seven of eight free throws and added a team high three assists while Thompson had eight of her nine rebounds on the defensive boards. Brittney Kenney had nine points and Rachel Beaulac pulled down seven rebounds. Union won despite shooting 34% and getting outrebounded 42-38, but held Clarkson to 28% shooting and forced 19 turnovers by the hosts.

Carey Turner led Clarkson with a double double, scoring 14 points with 12 rebounds. Brooke Butkovsky added eight points.

Unon led 28-26 at halftime. The teams played relentless defense and scored a total of only six points in the first 4:57 of the second half, as the score was 30-30. Union went on an 11-4 run for a 41-34 lead at 11:29 after two free throws by Kenney. Turner's jumper at 10:18 made it a five point game at 41-36, but the Dutchwomen went on a 14-7 run for a 12 point lead at 55-43 with 4:33 left. The run was keyed by six points by Meghan Erdman. Union's largest lead was the final, 59-46, after two free throws by Madden with 1:25 left.

The Dutchwomen play Saturday at St. Lawrence at 2 p.m.
