Dutchwomen ship off to Boston to face Huskies and Terriers

SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union Dutchwomen travel to Boston, Mass. to take on #6 Northeastern Friday night and #3 Boston University Saturday afternoon. The game against the Huskies will begin at 7:00 while the puck will drop against the Terriers the following day at 4:00 p.m. Follow Union Women's Hokcey on Twitter at UnionWHokcey all weekend for live updates about the Dutchwomen.  

Last Time Out

The Dutchwomen scored two power play goals to defeat Connecticut 3-2 at Messa Rink Sept. 29.

  1. Christine Valente scored the game-winning goal on the power play in the third period. The goal was assisted by Stefanie Thomson and Ashley Johnston.
  2. Alana Marcinko tallied 30 saves on the night, 14 of them in the third period.
  3. Jessica Kaminsky scored her first collegiate goal on the power play to level the score at one against Connecticut.

Scouting Northeastern

The Huskies finished 22-7-3 last year and finished first in Hockey East. Northeastern was were 5-3 against ECAC foes. Colgate and Syracuse have dropped games against the Huskies this season. Northeastern has forced nine goals while only conceding two.

  1. Sophomore Kendall Coyne leads the Huskies in scoring this season (2-2-4). She lead the team in goals (26) points and points (45) last season.
  2. The squad currently has eight players that have scored this season.
  3. Goaltender Chloe Desjardins has a .969 save percentage and one shutout this season.
  4. Union has yet to defeat the Huskies in four games in the all-time series. However, the last two decisions have been scored by a Northeastern goal in the third period or later.

Scouting Boston University

The Terriers finished 23-14-1, third in Hockey East last season and were 2-3-1 against ECAC opponents. All three of the Terrier losses were at Cornell. Boston University started the season on a high note defeating rival Boston College 4-2 in Chesnut Hill, Mass.

  1. Freshman Sarah Lefort paces the Terriers in goals this season with two.
  2. Marie-Philip Poulin tallied two assists in the win against the Eagles.
  3. Netminder Kerrin Sperry is 1-0-0 and has a save percentage of .935 this season. She allowed two goals, one on the power play in the win against Boston College.
  4. In the all-timer series, the Dutchwomen are winless against the Terriers with a 0-8 record.

Last Time in Boston

Last season, the Dutchwomen went 0-2 in Boston as they were edged out 1-2 against the Huskies and were defeated by the Terriers 2-6.

  1. At Matthews Arena, Stefanie Thompson leveled the score temporarily midway through the third period with Ashley Johnston on the assist.
  2. Then junior Casey Pickett scored both goals for the Huskies as her power-play goal in the third-period held to be the game-winner.
  3. At Walter Brown Arena, the four-time Hockey East Rookie of the Week recipient Kayla Tutino struck three times in a 6-2 win for the Terriers.
  4. Rhianna Kurio and Christine Valente both found the back of the net in the loss.
  5. The duo of Shenae Lundberg and Alana Marcinko combined for 38 saves in the match against the Terriers.

Power Play Tandem

With Christine Valente's most recent goal, she is currently tied for ninth in program history with four goals on the man-advantage. She and captain Rhianna Kurio tied the single-season record in power play goals last season with three. The duo are now ranked tied for ninth all-time in career power play goals with four.
