Volleyball falls to Brewers in three



POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Dutchwomen dropped two close sets as the Brewers were victorious in three sets (11-25, 23-25, 24-26) at Kenyon Hall Friday evening.

Vassar stormed out to a convincing 25-11 first set win, taking seven of the last 11 points on the serving of juniors Rose Carman and Jessie Ditmore. The match tightened considerably in the second and third sets. In the second set, Union held a 17-13 lead following a Vassar service error. The Brewers crept back into contention, tying the match 17-17 and again 22-22 following a Stopa kill. Union went ahead 23-22 after a kill by Rachel Wyman, but Stopa answered with her fifth kill of the match. Pitre served two consecutive aces for the 25-23 win.

The third and final set was tied five times, but was Union's for the taking, leading 23-21 and again with set point, 24-23. Pitre again sealed the victory, with her fifth and sixth service aces of the match. In total, the Brewers had 12 service aces.

The Dutchwomen were paced by Lauren Woods on offense with nine kills. The freshman also had four digs and three blocks. Marissa Vollmer led the defense with a team-high 22 digs. Kelley White pitched in will 11 digs as well as seven kills on offense. Mackenzie Westfall paced the team with 22 assists in the loss.

Chloe McGuire led the Brewers with 10 kills in the win. Hilary Koenigs orchestrated the offense with a game-high 30 assists while Chloe Hallum converted 21 digs.

Union and Vassar will in action tomorrow as they travel to Annadale-on-Hudson, NY. The Dutchwomen will be on at 11:00 a.m. to face Bard and 1:30 p.m. to play RIT. Vassar will just play in one match against RIT beginning at 11:00 a.m.
