SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The Dutchwomen were defeated by Skidmore College and Baruch College, each in four sets at host Skidmore Friday evening.
Skidmore was paired up with the Dutchwomen in the first match. Skidmore proved to be too much for Union to handle as the Thoroughbreds were able to win the match in four sets.
Sam Friedman recorded 28 digs as she became the third player in program history with 2,000 career digs. Corinne Palmer tallied 30 kills at a .674 hitting percentage to go along with four blocks in the win for Skidmore. Mallory Mendelsohn added 56 assists while Carolyn Bottelier filled up the stat sheet with 11 kills, 11 digs, five blocks and three service aces.
For the Dutchwomen,
Kim Armstrong tallied a double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs, while
Marissa Vollmer had a team-high 18 digs and
Rachel Wyman chipped in with 13 kills.
In the match against the Bearcats, Union was able to take the first set 25-19. However, the Bearcats would take three unanswered sets (22, 25, 14-25 and 9-25) to eventually take the match.
Rachel Wyman paced the offense with 10 kills and two service aces while
Shannon Hughes pitched in with nine kills of her own.
Mackenzie Westfall dished out 31 assists in the losing effort while
Marissa Vollmer led the team defensively with 15 digs.
Union will wrap up their final games of the season against New Paltz and Southern Vermont tomorrow at Skidmore at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. repsectively.
