Snowden scores both goals in women's soccer's 2-0 win over Bard

SCHENECTADY, NY – Junior midfielder Laura Snowden scored twice to lead women's soccer (10-1, 2-1 Liberty League) to a 2-0 win over Bard at College Park.

Snowden scored in the 21st minute and helped Union close out the game in the second half with another goal in the 85th minute, her third and fourth goals of the season. The Dutchwomen outshot Bard 12-2 for the contest, as senior goalkeeper Kayla Marti made two saves to earn her eighth shutout of the season.

Union had a number of chances early on in the contest, with sophomore forward Mollie Gilchrist in the middle of most of the action.
Union's best early chance came in the sixth minute when a cross from junior forward Melissa Scinto led to a header by Gilchrist just wide of the net.

Snowden gave the Dutchwomen the lead in the 21st minute on a broken play off a long throw in. Senior defender Caroline Gorka's long throw in found the feet of sophomore forward Mollie Gilchrist.

Gilchrist's shot attempt deflected to Snowden, who fired a shot from 15 yards out into the right side netting to give Union a 1-0 lead at 20:51.

In 72nd minute, Bard had its best chance to even the game, as Abby de Uriarte fed Tracy Siris with a pass just inside the touch line, and Siris fired just wide of the near post. Snowden closed out the game for Union with a low shot past Bard goalkeeper Lena James (10 saves) off a pass from senior forward Jennifer Mansfield at 84:55.

The Dutchwomen continue league play with games at Clarkson next Friday and at St. Lawrence Saturday.
