HANOVER, NH –
Junior forwards Daniel Carr and Matt Hatch scored in the third period, but No. 7/8 Union men's hockey (6-2-1, 3-1-0 ECAC Hockey) fell, 3-2, at Dartmouth (5-0-1, 4-0-0 ECAC Hockey) in front of 2,897 fans at Thompson Arena.
The loss snapped a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) and prevented Union from achieving its best start in program history.

Trailing 3-0 heading into the third period, the Dutchmen scored twice in the first three minutes of the final frame to set up an exciting finish.

Just 39 seconds into the period, Carr capitalized on a Dartmouth turnover on the side boards, curling back across the middle of the ice and firing a wrist shot over the shoulder of Dartmouth goaltender Cab Morris (28 saves).

With Union on the penalty kill just over minute later, junior forward Cole Ikkala found Hatch with a 2-on-1 pass near the goal mouth, and Hatch beat Morris with a backhander at 2:10 to cut the Dartmouth lead to 3-2. The goal was Union's fifth shorthanded tally of the season.

Sophomore goaltender Colin Stevens (17 saves) was at his best later in the third period, keeping Union within a goal with two impressive saves. The first stop was a sliding left-to-right pad save on Dartmouth's Matt Lindblad at the 13:00 mark. Stevens made another great save on Dartmouth's Eric Neiley's shot from the slot at 16:20.

Union maintained possession in the Dartmouth zone over the final minutes with Stevens out of the net, but was unable to even the score.

The Dutchmen went 0-for-4 on the man advantage, snapping a streak of seven straight games with a power play goal. Dartmouth finished the night 0-for-2 on the power play.

Union fell behind early in the contest, as Dartmouth capitalized on a long shift in the Union zone. With the puck behind the Union net, Dartmouth's Brandon McNally skated into the slot unmarked and found an open net off a pass from Tyler Sikura at 4:42.

It marked the first time that Union has trailed at the start of a game since allowing Bowling Green to score first on Oct. 12.

Union's best chance to even the game came at 5:30, when junior forward Matt Hatch nearly put in a rebound off a shot from senior defenseman Shawn Stuart, but he batted a bouncing puck wide of the net.

The Dutchmen continued to push the play early in the second period.

But Dartmouth would push their lead to three with a strong push to end the period. With sophomore defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere caught in the offensive zone on a failed pinch, Dartmouth skated back down the ice on a 2-on-1.

McNally fed Eric Robinson with a cross-ice pass, who beat Stevens for his team-leading 7th goal of the season at 13:06.

It appeared that Union would be facing just a two goal deficit heading into the third period, but Dartmouth scored with 00.8 seconds left in the frame to take a three goal lead. Mike Keenan beat the Union defense to a puck in the corner and fired a backhanded shot on net. The puck deflected to Matt Lindblad, who stuffed a shot past Stevens to put Dartmouth up 3-0 heading into the third period.

Union will have next weekend off before returning to action on Nov. 24-25 at Messa Rink with a two game series against Penn State.
