PITTSFORD, NY -- Camaryn Buckner hit for 20 points and had 10 rebounds to lead St. John Fisher to a 67-55 victory at Fisher's Woodcliffe Hotel & Spa Invitational Basketball Tournament Sunday. The Cardinals now stand 2-3 on the season and the Dutchwomen fell to 1-2.
Brittney Kenney led Union with 16 points and 11 rebounds for Union, while teammates
Shayla Madden and
Kate Thompson were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Buckner was named the tourney MVP. Thompson had 12 points and nine rebounds with four blocks, while Madden scored 11 and also had two steals. Union had a commanding 46-32 rebounding advantage, but was held to 29% shooting on the day.
Portia Velasco, also selected to the tourney team, had a game best 23 points and Brooke Seavitt had seven rebounds with her seven points. The Cardinals made 80% of the free throws (16-20) and shot 42% for the game.
St. John Fisher led by just one at halftime, 33-32, but opened up the second half with a 15-6 run in the first 8:53 of the second staznza. The hosts' largest lead of the game was 17 at 66-49 with 1:15 to play.
Union opens the home season Wednesday at the Viniar Athletic Center with a 6 p.m. game against former Liberty League rival Hamilton.
