Shayla Madden scored 14 with four assists as the Union College women's basketball team defeated SUNY Cobleskill, 73-42 at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Dutchwomen improved to 2-3 while the Flying Tigers fell to 1-3.
Brittney Kenney had a game and season high 12 rebounds for Union, while 11 were recorded on the defensive side.
Kelsey McDonald also added four assists for the hosts. Union shot 39% and made eight three pointers while holding the Flying Tigers to one three pointer in 10 attempts and 32% shooting overall. Union had a season high 52 rebounds and the Flying Tigers were held to just 25 boards. A total of 13 players scored for the Dutchwomen.
Kady Porterfield led Cobleskill with 10 points and Carolina Concepcion had a team best five rebounds with seven points. Heidi Anderson also scored seven points.
Union had a 45-19 halftime lead and the defensive effort held Cobleskill to 29% shooting in the first half. The Dutchwomen jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the first 4:18. Cobleskill was within 10 at 21-11 with 9:24 left but the Dutchwomen went on a 16-3 run in the next 6:13 capped by a McDonald three pointer. Amy Fisher hit a three for the 73-42 lead with 27 seconds left.
Union returns home Tuesday night, December 4, to host the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 7 p.m.
