SCHENECTADY, NY -- Brittney Kenney scored 17 points and Kate Thompson added 14 to lead the Union College women's basketball team to a 69-49 Liberty League win over Clarkson University Friday night at the Viniar Athletic Center.
With the win, the Dutchwomen improved to 12-11 overall and 8-7 in the league, while the Golden Knights fell to 8-15 and 3-12 in the league. The Dutchwomen head into the final game of the regular season tied with Skidmore, as they play at Skidmore Saturday at 2 p.m. both teams are one game behind RPI, Vassar and William Smith, all tied for second at 9-6. William Smith faces Vassar Saturday.
If Union wins and Vassar defeats William Smith Saturday, the Dutchwomen will clinch the #4 seed and play Wednesday at St. Lawrence.
Kelsey McDonald added 12 points and Shayla Madden scored 10 for the Dutchwomen. Kristin Schmidt had a game high eight rebounds and Thompson had six boards. Union shot 48% and held Clarkson to 33% shooting. The Dutchwomen had a 40-24 rebounding advantage.
Raeanne Clabeaux had 10 points to lead Clarkson, and Brooke Butkovsky and Noelle Miller each had four rebounds.
Union had a 39-19 lead at the half, and led by as many as 21 in the first half. The Dutchwomen led by as many as 24 with 12:46 left at 53-29, and the Golden Knights got to within 13 with 5:33 left at 58-45 before Union opened up the lead again and pulled away in the final minutes.
Seniors Rachel Beaulac and Mary Donohue were honored before their final home game.
