No. 11 men's lacrosse earns 11-7 win at Whittier in final game of California trip

WHITTIER, CA –
Junior attack Nolan Connors had three goals and an assist, and senior attack Ted McKenna added three goals to lead No. 11 Union men's lacrosse (4-1) to an 11-7 win over Whittier College (4-1) at Wallace "Chief" Newman Field at Memorial Stadium.

Sophomore midfielder Jonathan Andrews had two goals, sophomore attack Rob Santangelo added three assists, and senior goalie Sean Aaron had 10 saves to pick up his fourth win of the season.

The Dutchmen jumped out to a 4-1 lead at the end of the first half, with a 6-0 advantage on faceoffs and a 17-8 margin on ground balls.

McKenna scored two his three goals in the first half, and Connors closed out the second quarter with his first goal of the contest with 7:09 to go in the half, giving the Dutchmen a three goal margin at the break.

Andrews scored his first of the game early in the third quarter before Whittier scored three straight goals to cut the Union lead to 5-4 with 6:57 to go in the third quarter.

Union rallied for four straight goals late in the third and into the opening minute of the fourth quarter to pull away from the Poets. Andrews, Nick Alfonzetti, Joe Cordrey and McKenna all scored to give the Dutchmen a 9-4 lead with 14:22 to go in the fourth quarter.

Connors scored two straight goals late in the contest, including a man-up goal with 1:48 to go to seal the win.

Union will return to Frank Bailey Field to take on Ithaca College on Wednesday, March 28 in a contest that begins at 4:00 p.m.
