McGrail scored four but Dutchwomen end Florida trip with 18-12 loss to Buffalo State

Freshman Emily McGrail scored four goals but Union lost a neutral site women's lacrosse game to Buffalo State, 18-12 Saturday morning. The Dutchwomen fell to 0-4 while Buffalo State is now 6-2 on the season.

Hilary Salander, Heather Fraser and Tory Cameron scored two goals each for the Dutchwomen, while Brittany Fraser and Haley Gould each tallied once. McGrail and Kat Egizi each added an assist.

Kendyl Clarkson led the Bengals with five goals, with Karen Shaddock scoring four. Meghan Farrell, Mariah DeBolt and Becca Martinez scored twice each while Buffalo State got single scores from Ashley Caporizzo, Niki Paulhardt and Jenn Shaddock.

The Bengals had a 27-21 shot advantage and each team recorded 17 ground balls. Buffalo State converted on all but one of the free position opportunities while Union was five for eight.

Buffalo had a 3-0 lead with 18:56 left in the first half, but Union tied it at three in the next six minutes. McGrail gave Union a 6-5 lead with 8:17 remaining in the first but the Bengals scored four straight before the freshman capped the first half scoring with 1:58 left and it was 9-7 Bengals at the half. Buffalo led 12-11 after Heather Fraser's score with 16:27 remaining in the second, but the Bengals scored six straight before Brittany ended the scoring with 27 seconds left.

Kim Grinhaus made two saves for the Dutchwomen and Colleen George stopped five for the Bengals.

Union opens Liberty League play next weekend with home games Friday vs. Bard at 4 p.m. and Saturday vs. Vassar at 3 p.m.
