Women's lacrosse wins Liberty League opener, 14-2 over Bard

SCHENECTADY, NY --
Freshmen Ciara Dudek and Haley Gould scored three goals each to lead the Union College women's lacrosse team to a 14-2 victory over Bard in the Liberty League opener for both teams Friday afternoon.

The Dutchwomen improved to 1-4 overall on the season while the Raptors now stand 4-2. It was the best defensive performance by the women's lacrosse team since a 15-1 win at the University of Rochester on April 16, 2010.

Tory Cameron scored twice and Union got single goals by Heather Fraser, Hilary Salander, Emily McGrail, Annie Nelson, Caroline Brustowicz and Kim Seckler. Kat Egizi had three assists and Dudek and Nelson had four shots each. Kim Grunhaus played the first 30 minutes and Allison Brustowicz played the second half and each had one save in the Dutchwomen nets.

Bard got goals by Joanna Regan and Reed Magno, and Maddy Huggins made six saves in the nets for the Raptors.

Union outshot the visitors, 23-6, and had a 23-9 ground ball advantage. Bard was two for five in clears and Union was one for four, and the Dutchwomen forced 18 turnovers.

Union had a 10-0 lead at halftime and Dudek scored all three of her goals in the final 8:40 of the first half.

The Dutchwomen host league rival Vassar tomorrow at 3 p.m. while Bard plays a league game at William Smith.
