McGrail, Egizi lead 10-6 Dutchwomen lacrosse win over St. Lawrence

Freshman Emily McGrail scored five goals and senior Kat Egizi tallied three to lead the Union College women's lacrosse team to a 10-6 win over St. Lawrence University Friday at Frank Bailey Field.

The Dutchwomen (5-6 overall) are now 5-1 in the LIberty League, tied with William Smith and just one half game behind RPI, which is 6-1 after a 9-8 comeback home win over Vassar. The Saints fell to 4-2 in the league and 7-5 overall).

Union outshot St. Lawrence, 23-17, and had a 23-9 ground ball advantage while forcing 14 turnovers. Brittany Fraser and Hilary Salander scored the other goals for the Dutchwomen, while Kim Grinhaus made four saves in net. Tory Cameron, Micaela Desimone and Grinhaus had four ground balls each and McGrail had four draw controls with six shots.

Six different players scored for the Saints and Paige Powell made nine saves.

McGrail scored the first two goals of the game in the first 3:31, but Brigid Hurley notched her 34th and Margie Bailey's fourth at 24:49 tied it. Stephanie O'Rourke notched her 22nd of the eyar at 23:56 for the Saints' first lead at 3-2, but McGrail tied it at 18:32. After Soeurette Morley scored for the 10th time of the season at 17:25, Egizi took over. She scored the next three in the half, giving her nine on the year, and her tally with 6:20 left made it 6-4 Union before the half.

Hilary Salander's 12th 3:46 into the second half made it 7-4, but after Carly VanTassel scored her eighth at 17:26, it was a two goal game at 7-5. Union's Brittany Fraser (8th) and McGrail gave Union a 9-5 advantage with 8:26 left. Holly Noyes scored her 10th at 7:49, but McGrail capped the scoring with her fifth of the day and 35th of the season with 4:11 remaining.

Union will honor five seniors Saturday after the final regular season home game, vs. Clarkson at 2 p.m. St. Lawrence is at William Smith Saturday.
