Union women's lacrosse earns 12-6 win over Clarkson on Senior Day

Freshman Emily McGrail had three goals and senior Kat Egizi added two goals and two assists to help lead Union women's lacrosse (6-6, 6-1 Liberty League) to a 12-6 win over Clarkson (5-8, 1-6 Liberty League) on Senior Day at Frank Bailey Field.

Clarkson's Katie Van De Valk scored three goals and goalie Hannah Walters made 13 saves to lead the Golden Knights.

Union outshot Clarkson 31-14 for the game and owned a 22-15 advantage on ground balls.

The Dutchwomen held Clarkson to just five shots in the second half while building on a 7-4 halftime lead.

Union's Hilary Silander scored the second of two goals on the day at the 3:41 mark, and Haley Gould (two goals) and Egizi added goals to make it 10-5 Union at the 11:01.

Clarkson's Nicole Kelly scored at 13:19 to cut the Union lead to 10-6, but Gould and McGrail scored in the final 10 minutes of the contest to seal the win for the Dutchwomen.

Union got off to a quick start in the contest, scoring three goals in the first six minutes of the contest. McGrail scored her first of the game at 1:59. Just over a minute and a half later, Heather Fraser scored on a free position shot at the 3:38 mark. Salander added another goal for Union to put the Dutchwomen up 3-0 at 5:26.

The Golden Knights answered with three straight goals in less than a minute. Katie Van De Valk scored on a free position shot at 5:57 and Saryn Campbell added a goal on Clarkson's next possession at 6:15. Clarkson tied the game at 3-3 on Alyssa Cristaldi's goal at the 6:32.

Union scored four unanswered goals to take the lead back for good as Kat Egizi, McGrail, Brittany Fraser (free position) and Tory Cameron (free position) all scored in a span of just over 10 minutes, concluding with Cameron's goal at the 18:47 mark of the first half to give Union a 7-3 lead.

Van De Valk scored for Clarkson on a free position shot at 20:22 to cut the lead to 7-4 before halftime.

Union will continue Liberty League play with a contest at Rochester next Friday at 4:00 p.m.
