SCHENECTADY, NY - Senior attack
Ted McKenna and senior defenseman
Robert Sullivan each earned Liberty League weekly honors, the league announced. McKenna earned Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week, while Sullivan earned Defensive Performer of the Week honors, marking the first time this season that either has received a weekly award from the league.
McKenna had five goals in two NCAA wins last week, helping the Dutchmen reach the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history. McKenna scored twice, including his 100th career goal in a 12-5 win over Montclair State on Wednesday, and added three goals, all in the fourth quarter, in a 10-4 win over Bowdoin in the second round on Saturday.
Sullivan was the key component of a defense that allowed just nine goals combined both games last week. The Dutchmen held one of the nation's top-scoring offenses to just one goal through three quarters of play en route to a 12-5 win over Montclair State. Sullivan helped the Union defense hold Bowdoin to its lowest scoring effort of the year in a 10-4 win on Saturday.
No. 14 Union will take on No. 2 SUNY Cortland in the NCAA Quarterfinals at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The game will be a rematch of a March 3rd contest, Union's season opener. The Red Dragons earned a 6-4 win in that game, also at SUNY Cortland.
