No. 11 men's lacrosse set for Liberty League title game at No. 7 RIT

ROCHESTER, NY -  No. 2 seed Union (11-3, 5-1 LL) is in search of its second Liberty League title today at 12:00 p.m. against No. 1 seed RIT (13-2, 4-2 LL) at RIT Field. The Dutchmen are appearing in the league playoffs for the fifth consecutive season and have advanced to the championship game in three (2012, 2011, 2008) of the past five seasons.

» Sean Aaron Among The Nation's Best in Net
Senior goalie Sean Aaron, a two-time USILA All-American, is in the midst of another stellar campaign in net for the Dutchmen. Aaron is 11-3 with a 6.62 goals-against average and .646 save percentage. He has started all 14 games in net for Union.

» Aaron Named Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year
Union College senior goaltender Sean Aaron has been named the 2012 Liberty League Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Year. Aaron, a two-time All-American in net, earned the award for the second consecutive season.

He was one of eight Union student-athletes named to the Liberty League All-Star teams announced May 2. Sophomore attack Rob Santangelo (1st Team), senior defenseman Matt Livingston (1st Team), senior attack Ted McKenna (2nd Team), senior midfielder Ethan Meyer (2nd Team), senior midfielder Jon Stidd (2nd Team) senior midfielder Alex Stone (honorable mention) and senior defenseman Robert Sullivan (honorable mention) were all honored with awards.

» The Last Meeting
On April 18, sophomore attack Nate Greenberg had two goals and an assist, and Rob Santangelo added a goal and an assist but Union fell 10-6 at RIT. Senior goalie Sean Aaron made 12 saves as both teams recorded 22 shots on goal in the contest. RIT goalie Anthony DeLeo made 16 saves in net for the Tigers.

With the game tied 5-5 late in the third quarter, RIT scored five unanswered goals to take control of the contest. With 2:33 to play in the third quarter, A.J. Tingle started the run, picking up a ground ball and scoring from just outside the circle to give RIT a 6-5 lead.

RIT's Jordan Collins-Hartwig, who scored six of the Tigers' nine second half goals, added three goals in the fourth quarter, capping off the run with a man-up goal with 4:59 to play to put the Tigers up 10-5.

Greenberg scored from a wide angle on a man-up opportunity with 3:48 to play to end the run, but Union would get no closer.

» The Union-RIT Series
Today's game will mark the 10th meeting between Union and RIT in men's lacrosse. RIT owns a 6-3 advantage in the all time series against Union.

Union is in search of its first win over RIT since March 8, 2008, when the Dutchmen earned an 8-3 win over the Tigers at Frank Bailey Field.

RIT joined the Liberty League this season after earning an Empire 8 Championship and making a run to the NCAA Semifinals in 2011.

» Stone is a Rock on Faceoffs
Junior midfielder Alex Stone has emerged as Union's top faceoff man this season. Stone is 71-for-111 (.640) on faceoffs this season. Stone has won the faceoff battle in 10 of 12 games this season in which he has had faceoff responsibilities.

» A Second Half Team
Union has closed strong in the majority of its first 14 contests this season, outscoring competition 83-47 in the second half of games this season. In five of Union's wins this season, the Dutchmen were tied or trailed at halftime.

» McKenna Nears 100-Goal Mark
Senior attack Ted McKenna (25 goals, seven assists) is just two goals away from the 100-goal mark. McKenna has 133 career points (98 goals, 35 assists).

» Union Stingy on D
Union has proven to be one of the best defensive teams in the nation so far this season, allowing just 6.07 goals/game. The Dutchmen, who entered the weekend first in the Liberty League in scoring defense are led by senior defenseman Matt Livingston who is second on the team with 41 ground balls and first with 31 caused turnovers.
