Jansen leads Dutchmen to 3-1 opening win vs. Cazenovia

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior forward Sebastiaan Jansen scored two goals to lead the Union College men's soccer team to a season opening 3-1 win over Cazenovia at College Park Friday. It was also the opener for the Wildcats as the teams opened play in the 2012 Union Classic.

Jansen had four shots, all on net, and also assisted on the other tally by senior forward Sahr Nyuma. The Dutchmen outshot the visitors, 20-10, with 10 shots in each half. Union sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Carter made six saves for the Dutchmen.

Gregorie Ducasse scored the lone goal for Cazenovia. The Wildcats had four corners to Union's two and had 16 fouls to the Dutchmen's 12. Riley Battaglini stopped seven Union shots.

Jansen scored the first goal of the season just 3:01 into the contest. He was assisted by freshman midfielder Jeff Cohen for the 1-0 lead. Jansen got another clean look at the net 11:20 later with a pass from junior forward Nick Vozella. Ducasse scored the first goal of the year for the Wildcats at 27:18 on an unassisted tally. Ducasse had a break to the net and scored off his own rebound.

Carter made a number of brilliant stops keeping the 2-1 lead intact. Then at 57:58, Nyuma got a flick pass from Jansen for the insurance score.

Union plays Cabrini Saturday at 3:30 p.m., while Cazenovia faces RPI at 1 p.m.
