Dutchmen blank Fighting Tigers 4-0

Box Score

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union shuts down the Cobleskill attack as the Dutchmen score four goals in a shutout win at College Park Wednesday evening.

The Dutchmen were dominant in the first half as they were able to possess the ball away from the Fighting Tigers attack for the majority of the time. Senior Sebastiaan Jansen put Union on the board first with a diving header off a cross from Sahr Nyuma to make it 1-0.

Cobleskill put a scare on the Dutchmen defense when a free kick was sent to the box and goalkeeper Ryan Carter failed to punch the ball out. However, the fall landed harmlessly for a Union goal kick.

The Dutchmen extended their lead to two when Jansen was fouled on the fringe of the box to set up a Union direct kick. Jake Soodek gave the ball a tap to Daniel Miller where it found its way through the Cobleskill wall and past goalkeeper Mark Curran to make it 2-0.

Moments later, Soodek quickly made a throw-in to teammate Dean Constant where he blasted the ball to the lower left side to extend the lead to three. Cobleskill's defense was on their heels again in the final moments of the half when the Dutchmen were kicking in their tenth corner but no one was there to connect as the half expired.

Jansen added his seventh goal of the season when he was able to penetrate the Cobleskill defense to tally his second goal of the night to make it 4-0. Cobleskill's offense began to pick up some momentum in the latter parts of the second half but could find the back of the net as the Dutchmen held on to get their second shutout win of the season.

The Dutchmen will be back in action on Friday, September 14, as Union will play New Paltz at College Park under the lights at 7:00 p.m.
