No. 17 women's soccer falls 3-2 at RIT, snapping seven game win streak

ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 17 Union College (7-1-0, 1-1-0 Liberty League) women's soccer team dropped its first match of the season, falling 3-2 to RIT (5-3-0, 1-0-0 Liberty League) on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, NY.

Senior forward Jennifer Mansfield and junior forward Melissa Scinto scored goals for Union, who dropped their first game of the season. Mansfield added an assist, while Kayla Marti took the loss for the Dutchwomen allowing three goals and making six saves. The three goals allowed by Union were the most goals allowed this season.

Jaimie Lewandowski had a goal and an assist for RIT, while Rachael Bromson and Ashlene Potter each scored goals. Amanda Murray picked up her fourth win of the season, allowing one goal and making three saves. Alexa Martinez and Ehlana Gray each had assists.

Shots were even 12-12. The Tigers took four corner kicks to two for the Dutchwomen.

Lewandowski gave RIT an early lead with her goal in the fifth minute. The Tigers had a nice build up with one-touch passes from the back into the offensive end. Martinez fed Lewandowski who dribbled free and fired a shot from the top of the Union penalty area into the lower left corner. It was the sophomore's second goal of the season.

Mansfield tied the score at 1-1 on her sixth goal of the season in the 23rd minute. She fired a low shot across the RIT goal mouth that snuck inside the left post off an assist from Mollie Gilchrist.

After halftime, Bromson gave RIT a 2-1 lead in the 58th minute on her team-high sixth goal of the season. Lewandowski sent a perfect service from the midfield line that Bromson ran onto. She split two Union defenders and rifled a shot into the top right corner.

Less than four minutes later, Potter scored the eventual game-winner on her first goal of the season off an assist from Gray. Gray led Potter with a beautiful pass. Potter also split two Union defenders and scored as Marti was caught off her line.

Union came back, pulling to within a goal in the 82rd minute on a goal by Melissa Scinto. Mansfield gathered a loose ball, spotting Scinto at the top of the RIT penalty area. Scinto gathered and fired a shot that beat Murray from 18 yards out to make it 3-2 RIT.

The Tigers were able to run out the final seven minutes of regulation to pick up their first conference win of the season.

Union will take on Hartwick next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Oneonta, NY.
