Box Score

ONEONTA, NY-
The visiting Union College women's soccer team scored three second half goals to defeat the Hartwick women's soccer team, 3-0, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Elmore Field. With the win, Union improved to 8-1 on the season.

The Hartwick defense kept the Dutchwomen in check in the first half. The Hawks had a chance to take the lead in the 33rd minute but Cristina Sicari's shot went just wide of the goal.

Union would have a couple of chances to take the lead. In the 38th minute, sophomore forward Mollie Gilchrist headed the ball but Hartwick goaltender Hope Brown made a diving save to prevent the score. Less than five minutes later, junior forward Laura Snowden hit a point-blank shot that Brown made the save on. The score remained 0-0 at halftime.

The second half was a different story as Union scored a little over a minute in and never looked back. Gilchrist hit a corner kick that sophomore midfielder Whitney Bickford knocked in past Brown to give the Dutchwomen the 1-0 lead.

Bickford would score her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute on an assist from junior forward Melissa Mansfield. Just under four minutes later, senior forward Jennifer Mansfield's corner kick was pushed back by Brown but junior defender Caroline Gorka collected the rebound and scored to give Union the 3-0 lead and the win.

Brown made four saves in goal for Hartwick. Senior goalkeeper Kayla Marti started for Union and stopped three shots. She was relieved by sophomore goalkeeper Allison Brustowicz for the final 10:54 of the game and did not record a save.

Union held a 13-6 lead in shots and led 10-3 in corner kicks.

The Dutchwomen will take on St. John Fisher College tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
