Box Score
ROCHESTER, NY - Sophomore Mollie Gilchrist and senior Jennifer Mansfied each scored in the first half to lead the Union College women's soccer team (9-1) to a 2-0 win over St. John Fisher (4-4-3) on Sunday afternoon at Growney Stadium.
St. John Fisher battled in the second half, taking as many shots as its opponent (9-9) and taking just one-less corner kick than Union (5-4). The damage was done, however, in the first half, as the Cardinals gave up two goals in the first 20 minutes of play.
Gilchrist scored the first goal at 3:37 after she settled a rebound that rattled off the crossbar from a Jennifer Mansfield shot. Just under 15 minutes later, Mansfield tallied her own score on a breakaway after a pass from Melissa Mansfield.
Sydney Devitto started in net for the Cardinals and played pretty solid all afternoon, collecting six saves including a brilliant diving stop late in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Kayla Marti stopped five shots in the shutout for Union, her seventh of the season.
Heather Konieczny led Fisher with five shots, two of which were on goal, while nine other Cardinals tallied a shot apiece.
Union will return to Liberty League play this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against Bard College at College Park.
