Volleyball takes two wins away at the opening day of the Bomber Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Dutchwomen were able to win the opening matches against Cabrini College and St. John Fisher College at the Bomber Invitational, hosted by Ithaca College Friday evening.

In the match against the Cavaliers of Cabrini College, the Dutchwomen found themselves in trouble early. Union dropped the first two sets 19-25 and 20-25 but then rallied back to string together three sets for the win. Union won their third set 25-20 and won the final two sets in close fashion 25-23 and 15-13. Casey Tepper led all Dutchwomen in kills and digs with 21 and 15 respectively. Nora Wood contributed with 14 kills of her own. Mackenzie Westfall and Kim Armstrong had solid performances setting up the Dutchwomen attack. Westfall had 30 assists while Armstrong put forth 25. Marissa Vollmer was also a key contributor with 15 digs in the winning effort.

Against St. John Fisher, Union was able to defeat the Cardinals in straight sets, 25-15, 25-11 and 25-22. Vollmer led in the defensive category with a team-high 20 digs. Freshman Rachel Wyman led the Dutchwomen attack with 11 kills while Tepper had 10. Raj Dhaliwal was very efficient in her attack as she converted seven kills with no errors in 14 attempts with a hitting percentage of .500. Armstrong and Westfall continued their strong play in the second game as the duo tallied for 33 assists combined.

Union will play two games tomorrow with the first game against Windener University at 10:00 a.m. while the second game will be determined based on tomorrow's matches.
